About us

BuenMate is a small, independent yerba mate shop based in Rotterdam.

Why I started BuenMate

My passion for mate started in South America. While I was studying in Chile and travelling around Argentina, mate became a big part of my life, and that's where my love for it really started brewing (no pun intended).

Back in the Netherlands, I always found myself asking my family in Spain to bring me mate when they came to visit. I kept running out, and the prices here were generally too high. So I decided to start my own mate shop: to share my love for mate and to make it easy to get in the Netherlands.

I drink mate throughout the entire day, with my thermos that I carry around everywhere. One day I hope to open a physical shop where I can share my passion with the lovely people of Rotterdam, and introduce them to mate as an alternative to the coffee that dominates our culture.

Because for me, mate is more than a drink. It's time spent with friends, family, colleagues and sometimes even strangers. There's nothing better than sharing the gourd with other people who share the love of mate.

What we sell

The yerbas people actually drink in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil: Playadito, Canarias, Rosamonte, Amanda, Taragüí, CBSe, Barão and more. Next to that, the gourds, bombillas and thermoses you need to drink them, from a simple stainless steel gourd to a handmade Martin Fierro.

How we choose

We stock the brands and accessories that mate drinkers buy most, and we compare our prices with other Dutch mate shops so you pay a fair price. If something is sold out, we take it off the shop instead of letting you order and wait.

Shipping

Orders ship within one day. Shipping is free on orders over €50 in the Netherlands and over €100 to other EU countries. See our shipping policy for details.
